Create Posting Sign InSeeking a farmer (food or fiber) aligned with helping the land to thrive!
We seek a regenerative, organic, biodynamic, or permaculture interested farmer- because any of these methods are in alignment with our overall vision towards helping the land, the people, the soil, and the flora/fauna to thrive. Someone wishing to raise animals (not for meat consumption) for either milk/cheese, fiber, or eggs are welcomed.
We are developing a community hub elsewhere on the land that hopes to offer education and connection around nature-based contemplative practices. Therefore we are interested in partnering with a farmer who is aligned with these values and interested in assisting this vision through their passions and endeavors in farming.
General Information
Quality of Land
There is an open channel/flood irrigation ditch system that has been in operation for 50+ years that runs from the NE corner across the irrigated portion of the pasture towards the SW corner where there is an irrigation fed pond that could be used for animals when there is water. The NW portion of pasture could be used for dryland farming methods. The S line of the pasture has some gamble oak trees that does provide some shade for animals. Pasture is fenced but needs fencing repair to properly manage animals.

I have water rights.
Water Source
Irrigation Ditch
Irrigation Infrastructure
Our system requires a good shovel, muck boots, and some plywood to create blockages that moves water from channel to channel.
Additional Details
We have one share of Summit Irrigation in Montezuma County. It runs in an open-ditch system. The share depends on the flow rate and days of flow as determined by Summit Irrigation and varies year to year.

Farm Infrastructure
Description of Farm Infrastructure
We are building infrastructure ongoingly. We have visions for a barn with an off-grid "shouse" (shed/house) attached to the barn in the pasture area. Can discuss further with serious applicant.
Will the landholder live on site?
Yes
Yes, the property has a livable structure, but it is not available for for farmer/rancher housing
Description of Housing
We live on the property and would be open to the farmer placing a yurt/tiny house on the pasture. We are completely off-grid so they would need to be off-grid ready.
Would the property qualify for organic certification?
Yes
Is the property certified organic?
No
Current Production
Additional Production Details
There is a 10-15 acre pasture that has water rights from Summit Ridge Irrigation. We are trying to biodynamically regenerate the land from previous use. The land previously was grazed by cattle and more historically was used to grow legumes. The 10-15 acre pasture has been fallow for over 2 years so the grass growth has created a rich biological sponge in the soil and there is a variety of fodder for animals to graze. Soil testing indicates both good soil with water retention and biodiverse grass population. Water rights are a 'share' and varies year to year, so supplemental water may be needed depending on the farmer's needs. There is access to pasture from a county maintained road.
