Looking for someone(s) who appreciate the seasonal rhythm of farm life and value deeply food from the earth to the table

As we grow older we wish to farm, but in a slower fashion and without so much on our plates, therefore we are looking for a person/couple to live on the land and lease our half acre market garden from us.  We want this to be a collaboration as we will still grow our garlic every year, some specialty crops and have egg layers as well.  We want to share our market both space with the new farmers, introducing them to the community which we've established the last 20 years.  Occasionally we will also come to market ourselves to see friends and stay in touch with our community. The market garden will remain no-till and non-certified organic.  This is basically a turn-key business lease.

Quality of Land

Market garden for lease (irrigated usually may-october) is half an acre with three high tunnels, one shade tunnel and a pack shed.

Additional Production Details

SongHaven is a twenty acre property with forest, dryland grass pasture, orchards and a market garden. Our current business is a market garden serving one farmers market, a small on site CSA and a large wholesale account to a local grocery store. We also have a small egg layer flock and dairy goat herd. We've been farming using organic methods since 2005.

As we will be sharing the kitchen we prefer that individuals are omnivores and have an interest in cooking and sharing in the expenses of the pantry. We also prefer individuals who enjoy being in the flow and present with nature and each other. To us, this means unhooking from the attachment/addiction of the digital world most of the time. We'd prefer if interested individuals would come WWOOF with us before taking on a lease to determine if we are all a good fit together as this transition is about building relationship.

Tenure Arrangement Details

Lease arrangement will be for one season and include the half acre market garden, hothouse area for starts, tools/equipment, including market setup, water use, compost made on site and a place to live. There will be a $1000 deposit for infrastructure/tools/equipment that will be refunded at the end of the season if no incidents occur that require capital to fix. Arrangement does not include shared food expenses.

 

This is a starting point for discussion.  There may be individuals out there who wish to take off and travel during the winter months or maybe you have an RV or tiny house you'd like to bring and live in.  We are open to discussions about the many possibilities.
