I am looking to sell a profitable, established, beyond-organic flower farm in the Gunnison Valley, housing included.

Since 2021, I have been farming flowers at this property and, for three years before that, I farmed vegetables with Iola Valley Farm. Now we share the property and have our own separate businesses. Although I love this farm and land, due to personal reasons, I am looking for someone to purchase the business. I am also open to finding someone who wants to take on the farming aspect so I can focus on weddings and the business operation.  It is an incredible opportunity with an affordable, secure lease that includes housing (extremely difficult to find in the Gunnison Valley!) and an established clientele.

Quality of Land

Most of the acreage is sage brush where animals (sheep and cows) graze. There is elk and deer fencing surrounding 2 acres where we farm. Currently, we have 17 hoophouses, two barns, two prop sheds for seed starting, a wash and pack shed, a walk-in cooler, and several corrals for animals. Because of the elk/deer fencing, we have no large animal pressure.

Water Rights

I have water rights.

Water Source

Domestic Well (without augmentation plan), Pond (with surface rights)

Irrigation Infrastructure

I use all drip lines in my hoophouses and perennial beds. I have one overhead irrigation system for my newly-established peony bush patch.

Additional Details

All of my irrigation is done through drip lines which run off of the domestic well. However, there is also a warm spring and pond(s) on the property that we use for irrigation as well. We have full water rights.

Description of Farm Infrastructure

I already have buckets, snips, frost cloth, wickets, drip lines, irrigation supplies, a wagon, and most of the supplies anyone would need for a functional flower farm. There is also a tractor on the propery, owned by Iola, that we are allowed to use. We also share a tiller, broadfork, shovels, hoes, and other tools.

Will the landholder live on site?

No

Yes, the property has a livable structure for farmer/rancher housing

Description of Housing

The house is a newly-remodeled, one bedroom home, approximately 600 square feet. It has an electric fireplace for heat, full kitchen, homemade butcher block counter tops, a washer/dryer, and two full bathrooms. I currently live in the house and love it. I use the full bath attached to the master/only bedroom for myself, and I share the other full bath with the vegetable farmer. He lives in a converted school bus 6 months of the year. When he is here, I let him use my washer/dryer and the other full bathroom. The rest of the year, he lives in Crested Butte. There is also another converted school bus on the property we share to provide housing for employees/guests.

Would the property qualify for organic certification?

I'm not sure

Is the property certified organic?

No

Description of Soil

Most of the soil is clay with a fairly balanced PH (maybe a bit high.) The soil in all of the greenhouses I use has been amended with our own compost every year since 2021. Before that, it was amended by organic compost by the vegetable farmer.

Additional Production Details

Sundrop Flora is a beyond-organic flower farm in operation since 2021. It has 9 hoophouses, two prop sheds for seed starting, a small floral "studio," several 60' perennial beds, access to a walk-in cooler, and all of the irrigation/frost cloth/tools/buckets necessary to run a successful flower farming operation. The business is for sale and also open to a business partner who wants to come in and farm the land. Sundrop shares space with Iola Valley Farm, a beyond-organic vegetable farm. There are also cows and sheep on the property, whose manure we are able to use to generate our own compost. It has a secure lease and housing available on the land.

Tenure Arrangement Details

I am looking for someone to purchase the business. I am also potentially open to the idea of a business partnership but would prefer to sell the business. Someone could come and learn from me this whole summer or they could take it over at the end of this season. I am currently contractually obligated for weddings through October. The business is then shut down due to the winter until March 1st, when I begin seeds. I am hoping someone would want to start in March of 2026 but would be available to come learn for periods of time throughout the season of 2025.
